Qiongzhuea tumidissinodaOther names: "Chinese Walking Stick Bamboo," "Tumidissinoda" Statistics: Height: 20 feet Diameter: 1 inch Tumidissinoda is a fascinating and bizarre bamboo. Tumi is Latin for "bulging" and that is exactly this bamboo's claim to fame. The nodes are greatly swollen and resemble flying saucers or Frisbees. It grows to about 20 feet tall. The tiny leaves are reminiscent of Moso, and its overall form is quite beautiful. The shoots look much like those of Fargesia robusta—they're reddish, and fuzzy. Tumidissinoda, once extremely rare and expensive, is becoming more common. Give it space, as it is a very aggressive runner. Tumidissinoda makes very unusual walking sticks. |
